Season 3b of Teen Wolf has pretty much the same opening sequence as 3a, but with the added bonus of random bits of red. Red smoke, red eyes, red lights on Stiles’ car. I assumed that all the red had something to do with Scott being the new alpha. However, as more episodes passed I started thinking… about Stiles’ wardrobe.
So we’re all familiar with his trademark red hoodie, right?
It’s completely red, inside and out, with a white zipper and white strings. This is the hoodie that we’re all familiar with because it’s pretty much what every fan artist ever has drawn him in despite the fact that I think he only wears it a couple of times. It’s what we consider his default outfit and thus, in a sense, an intimate part of who Stiles is.
However, in 3a Stiles has a new hoodie. At first I thought that maybe I was just imagining things, but no. There are distinct differences in this new hoodie.
This hoodie is mostly red, but the inside lining is a dark gray, as are the strings. At first I thought that this was just a strange accident. Maybe the costuming department had misplaced his original hoodie. (For instance, in Supernatural they ended up ditching Dean’s trademark leather jacket because it had gotten stolen. So these sorts of things do happen.)
But this brings me to
Now suddenly we have a third hoodie. This one is only partly red and has even larger amounts of gray. The gray is no longer only in the lining, but is also visible outwardly. The zipper and strings have gone back to white.
And then finally when Stiles is fully possessed at the end of Riddled, we see him wearing this.
A hoodie which is mostly shades of gray and black with black strings and only two thin stripes of red. Also note that this hoodie has no zipper, which makes it far more confining. Instead of being something that can easily be taken off, this article of clothing seems to encompass more of Stiles. Like a straight jacket, in a very loose sense.
So what does any of this have to do with anything?
